The House of Hope residence was built in 1882 and carries a long and meaningful history. Located at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Hazel Street, just steps from downtown, the building has served the community in many ways over the years—including as a doctor’s office and a bed-and-breakfast.

In 2012, its purpose shifted when Diane Sherman felt called by the Lord to open a safe and supportive home for women on parole, inspired by the families she had served. Diane recognized a need for a secure, drug- and alcohol-free environment where women could rebuild their lives, find stability, and prepare to return to the community as healthy,
contributing citizens. She lived in the home and served as the house mother, and today, volunteers continue to carry forward the mission she began.

The House of Hope is a fully nonprofit organization that receives no government funding. Our work is sustained solely through the generosity and support of the community.
